is my laptop a refurbished one?

A newbie to this forum so I hope my question is posted in the right place.
Purchased a "new" Thinkpad Edge in mid 2011. The laptop has been running well, although due to my very frequent (?) usage, I have been charging and discharging my battery a lot. Recently the battery gauge showed that the capacity is low and asks me to possibly replace with a new one. I looked up and found some very useful information here. HOWEVER, I noticed the following during my investigation of my battery. Below is the info provided by my Power Manager.

A SANYO battery
Cycle count: 762
Manufacture date: 2011-04-21
First used date: 2008-02
SerialNumber: 23492
Design capacity: 47.52 Wh
Full charge capacity: 32.52 Wh (after I noticed the drop in capacity, I have run the calibration three times, which boosted up the FC from 22 Wh to the current 32 Wh).

Battery life has always been an issue for laptop but I wonder why the First used date precedes the manufacture date. Is that a sign the laptop is NOT new but refurbished ? A side question - given my "frequent" usage (and partial discharging) of laptop, I wonder if I should get a desktop to "replace" my frequent usage of laptop at home.

Thank you.

hello and welcome to the forum..

i'm not sure what the first date of the thinkpad edge being made was without looking but i think it was after the first useage date on that battery..
my guess is thats an error..
first used in 2011 and manufacture date of 2008..?!
you might call the support line and ask them about that..
also, in the past, batteries usually are good for a year and some for longer than two years.. on a thinkpad x300 i have the battery lasted with very very light useage until 3 or 4 months ago making it 4 and a half years old..

Definitely an error on the first used date. Run the battery guage reset about 3 times.

Also, post what model Edge you have. It is listed as the "Type" on the bottom of the computer.

That cycle count is kind of high. Almost a rate of 2 full cycles per day. When you charge your laptop, make sure you are charging it back to 100% every time and not small little charges here and there along the way. It is ok to discharge while on battery here and there, but recharging needs to go to 100% every time to keep the battery in the best shape.

The battery warranty is 12 months, so if you bought it more than 12 months ago, calling Lenovo support line will be a waste of time. The guy in Atlanta answering the phone will be like, "duh, I don't know."
