Dropped It! (BackLight INOP)

My Thinkpad Edge E520 (1143-CTO) fell off the arm of the Lazyboy and the LCD spider cracked. Bright white on half and crazy stuff on the other.
Ordered replacement LCD LP156WH4 (TL) (B1) and put it in.
Now there is no back light. Everything looks good if i boot it up and hold a bright light to it.
My question is is there anything a novice can check or replace that might be the problem, or do i need to send it in?
When i plug in the old LCD it is dark now too.
Lenovo wants minimum $179-570 to fix it. Are there people on here that do that kind of work??
Thanks for any insight.
Jeff

On real Thinkpads there is usually a fuse around where the LCD cable gets plugged into the motherboard.
Find and measure that with a multimeter to see if OK or not.
Never seen an Edge, so don't know if that applies also.
Another possibility could be a damaged LCD-cable.
