Is disk connector removable?

#1 Post by jimkd1yv » Thu Jun 12, 2014 4:56 pm

ThinkPad E520. hdparm reports this drive:

ATA device, with non-removable media
Model Number: WDC WD5000BPKT-00PK4T0
Serial Number: WD-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Firmware Revision: 01.01A01
Transport: Serial, SATA 1.0a, SATA II Extensions, SATA Rev 2.5, SATA Rev 2.6

I want to temporarily swap the hard drive with a different one that I have. Past laptop drives I have worked with, you could always pull the connector-adapter off the back end, and swap it with the one appropriate for the computer you were using.

I took the drive out of this unit, and attempted to pull and pry the connector-adapter off, but it wasn't coming loose. I might not have been pulling hard enough, or maybe this one is not removable like others.

Also, does the SATA transport mean that I can only use another drive that is also SATA?

Can anybody offer any suggestions?

Thanks
JimR
