Choice between ThinkPad Edge E335 and E430

Hi,

I am looking to buy a lenovo laptop with the intention of using it mostly for word/excel applications, internet browsing and skype, and basic multimedia tasks (online video streaming, movies). The laptop's emissions (noise/heat) are key for me and by looking online, the E335 version seemed to be praised for its very low emissions and its low price.

The only drawback is that it has the AMD E2 2000 processor, which performs much lower than its intel i3 counterparts.
I wanted to check for your experience with the emissions of the E335, and whether the weaker processor would play a role in the performance of the laptop for the basic tasks intended.

Also, I wanted to ask whether choosing the E430 version with intel i3 and would result in any drawbacks in terms of emissions.

Thanks!

Hallo,

welcome to the forum :-) Unfortunately, i have no experience with the AMD E2-2000 processor, but i configured a Lenovo G500s notebook, which has the Intel Core i3-3110M processor earlier this year. In terms of emissions, the notebook with the Intel i3-3110M was cool and quiet.

What is your budget? The Edge series thinkpads aren't highly regarded in build quality or durability, and seem to suffer from more defects than the true thinkpad line (T, W, X series). I would stay clear from the Edge series and try to pick up a well priced T410 with webcam, or even a T420 on ebay.

I would recommend you the last line of TP Edge series (E540 or E440), as they fixed some issues like the pulsating fan from E530/E430. I bought E540 almost 2 months ago, was very sceptic about its build quality (my previous laptop was t61) compared to the T-bussiness class, but it's nothing to worry about! Build quality is better than any of the Lenovo crappy "G"-series. And it's a quiet machine as well (though it would become more quiet if you put an ssd in it, like me)

Here's a review of E540 by the notebookcheck guys:
