Does E560 use PWM for display dimming?

#1 Post by blue42 » Thu Dec 29, 2016 6:50 pm

Hi all

Do the US versions of E560 use PWM in display dimming? And if so, what frequencies? Notebookcheck.com states that European versions do not use PWM.

(It's easy to verify, using a cam and a "test" image... a thin white line on black ground -> http://www.flatpanelshd.com/focus.ph...&id=1362457985
Then "How to test for PWM yourself" -> "The more accurate method:")

Thanks :)

Since there is Lenovo display lottery, the notebookcheck information is vaild for the exact panel type only. In case of Intel GPU the PWM frequency can be modified by tools like this one https://github.com/Kappa71/PWM
ThinkPad (1992 - 2012): R51, X31, X220
Huawei MateBook 13

It is a lottery indeed

Some people write of e.g. LG panels vs. Panasonic, however I can't find appropriate information... It's not to be found in the Lenovo tech database, maybe elsewhere?

I've read about the Intel driver mods. Some say they do work only with older drivers, e.g. from 2013, but this one seems to work with recent editions as well. PWM > 2kHz is better than 200Hz, still...
