12V DC Charger for E 570

#1 Post by JWalker » Sun Feb 19, 2017 10:36 am

I am looking for a 12V DC charger for my Thinkpad E570. I have not found one listed for my laptop so I am trying to figure out the specifications. My AC charger says 20V output but my good voltmeter measures 17.7V. I see 12V DC chargers that specify 20V outputs and wonder if they will be ok. A little help would be appreciated.

This is what you need, a genuine Lenovo 20V/65W charger, such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/182298280704
There are also 20V/90W versions available, bit bigger and heavier.
Anything else (and especially non-genuine) is NOT recommended.
And a 12V DC charger would be a fire hazard.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
Lenovo: X240, X250, T440p, T480, M900 Tiny.

PS: the old Boardroom website is still available on the Wayback Machine

Thanks for the recommendation to use genuine Lenovo parts. I have read Lenovo's recommendation to use only the charger that comes with their laptop to the extent that you should not even interchange chargers between laptops of the same model. Perhaps the latter is an overkill, but I have to take most of their advice seriously. My measurement of my AC input - 20V DC output being 17.7V is an indication that I can't go out and buy a 20V output charger and use it without more information. I am surprised to read that a 12V DC charger is a fire hazard. I have used them for over ten years. Every time I buy a new laptop I must find a new DC charger. I sometimes don't have access to 120V AC when I travel in a car or motor home. I may try to look further for a 12V charger but how I will be sure the output voltage is correct I don't know.

There's also this travel charger: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... de=0B47481

Thanks. I finally found the same link you posted and was able to find the compatibility table which shows it is good for my E 570. Thanks. I feel more comfortable with a Lenovo product which they say is compatible. Sometimes a 12 V charger is the only thing that will work.
