Right Amount of Memory

#1 Post by J Walker » Mon May 01, 2017 3:03 pm

I bought an E570 for my sister and I want to know if its 4G of memory is causing a big slowdown. The processor is i3 Dual Core 2.4 GHz and the HD is 7200 rpm. Would 8G or 16G make a big difference in speed. Thanks.

I think it's the amount of memory and the i3 processor. I think it also depends upon how much crap is running in the background and what she's trying to run in the foreground and how much malware is on the system.

Press CTL SHIFT ESC to open the task manager and go to the performance tab and watch what is effecting the performance while you try to use it. It may be the low amount of ram is causing the system to rely on paging on the hard drive. That makes things really slow.

Thanks for the help. Looking at the Task Manager in Windows 10 would tell a lot about memory usage. I will try to find what the usage is although my sister lives in a different city and is not the best to tell me much about her computer.

One way to definitely speed things up would be to replace the HD with an SSD.
