hardware whitelisting

#1 Post by caffemusse » Fri Aug 05, 2022 12:05 pm

Hi,
Perhaps this is covered in another post (if so forgive me as I could not locate) but I wanted to prolong the life of my e130 by updating to an AC wifi but hit the 1802 unauthorized card.
IMO lenovo could boast their sustainability profile in this way, by providing bios updates with whitelist removed - after a certain period of the model release (thus also respecting their hardware business case) - any opinions on this? In short I think so many thinkpads can have a significantly longer lifespan - and lenovo should be prouder of this - but then again, this does not sell new laptops to consumers...
I know there to be bios mod options out there, but want to take stock of any recommendations from this forum on how to best proceed and where to get help on this?

Hope someone will have some good fruitfull suggestions :)

You want fruitful?
Buy Apple...
Or install OS-X on your E130: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guid ... -i3.98438/

Lenono is one of the few companies that keep pestering their customers with wifi (and other) whitelists.
The amount of people that wants these whitelists removed is minimal compared to units sold.
Hence the lack of interest to change anything.
The websites that can remove these whitelists usually charge little or nothing.
A Google search for 'lenovo xxxxx wifi whitelist removal' usually comes up with places that can help.

Frankly, I'm surprised that your E130 is still alive, let alone that someone is still interested in it.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

You could try asking on a site like bios-mods https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread- ... al?page=49
