brightness of screen dims and brightens on its own?

#1 Post by noeltazz » Fri Apr 16, 2010 10:14 pm

i just bought the edge, and im using it now. i have it at level 2
brightness and this thing seems to be dimming and brightening up on its own, within one or two levels.

is this some kind special power saving thing builtin or is this some kind of malfunction?

It'll do that on battery power and has been reported consistently for many other ThinkPads using the Intel graphics chipset.

Just go to the Intel configuration page (usually can be accessed by Start > Run > igfxcfg.exe).
Go to the Power Options page and set "Intel(R) Display Power Saving Technology" to Maximum Quality or turn it off altogether.

Does this happen without you changing power states? Could it be that they've implemented an ambient light sensor?

Try energy management settings, there is a menu to control screen dimming during inactivity.
