How did you tweak your ThinkPad Edge
How did you tweak your ThinkPad Edge
Have ThinkPad Edge 0578-F5U i3-370m WinPro 7 64bit
How did you tweak yours to maximize performance?

Re: How did you tweak your ThinkPad Edge
Not having a Thinkpad Edge, I would still recommend the first thing I do upon receipt of a computer: format and reinstall. A clean Windows installation with none of the crapware will do wonders to improve the speed and reliability of your computer.

Re: How did you tweak your ThinkPad Edge
It's easier to just uninstall the unnecessary programs. Supposedly Lenovo already tweaked Windows 7 for maximum performance so I don't know if it is necessary to do a clean install. Thinkpads don't really come with a lot of crapware anyways. I can only recall uninstalling Skype and Office 2007 trial when bought a new one this year. I also removed Thinkvantage Tools and Advanced Access Connections as I don't have much use for them.

I'M DONE WITH THINKPADS, JUST DONE!!!

Depending on how many programs you run at the same time, it might make sense to add some memory. Check memory use with task manager. Personally, i found the software that was pre-installed on my ThinkPad to be useful and therefore didn't wipe the disk or re-install the operating system in order to get rid of pre-installed software.

Re: How did you tweak your ThinkPad Edge
This may seem odd but I did a major tweak to my new 14' Edge simply installing (dual boot) LinuxMint 9 -Gnome. I run Linux on all my PCs and
have for a few years now (about 5 years). I always get significant performance enhancement but...
The difference I get by running LinuxMint on my AMD Turion Edge surprised me, especially the difference in the display! LinuxMint includes an
AMD proprietary driver, users can choose to install. The difference it makes in the display is amazing! Its like two different displays! When I
went to Hulu.com, I actually saw sharp HD & 3D... I cannot describe the difference between running my Edge with the installed Win 7 and LinuxMint 9!
You can download a LinuxMint 9 DVD iso image for free. Just download it, burn the ISO to DVD and boot with it. It's a live DVD so it will not alter
your Windows installation. It is very easy to install along side Windows 7. It will do it itself. Just click install and go with the partition scheme that
is presented. Its much faster and vastly easier to install in dual boot fashion that any version of Windows ever was. Remember, you get the greatly enhanced display only by installing LinuxMint (LM) as you must install the AMD driver which can only be done, I think, after you install LM.
You must see it to believe it. Why Lenovo ships the Edge so poorly set up is beyond me.

Re: How did you tweak your ThinkPad Edge
I had an Edge for a month and a half (hated it, got rid of it, long story).
If you're going to use Windows 7, definitely do a clean install. I got the system to a barely acceptable speed after doing a clean install. Prior to the format, it actually felt more sluggish than my R50 (Pentium M 1.4GHz). Found it much more usable after installing Ubuntu 10.04 (though this did nothing to offset the godawful hardware of course).
