To all Edge 13 owners!

#1 Post by drifter42 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 1:10 pm

Hello! I'm new here to the forums and I was thinking of trying a Thinkpad edge 13 with the SU7300 processor. I was wondering if anyone with this notebook can tell me if the SU7300 can handle flash videos pretty well as I watch a lot of youtube, hulu and various streaming video sites. I'm not much of a gamer, I just browse and watch videos and listen to music mostly. I have read a lot of reviews and there are a lot of mixed feelings about the edge. Then again that can be said with any notebook :) . Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don't answer your question directly, but be careful (either if you want it, or if you are undecided to wait), the edge 13" has almost disappeared from the Lenovo website in USA and Canada, as I checked today.

Don't know if it means an update soon... probably.

It handles all music fine, all videos fine, flash up to 720p fine, however flash 1080p will lag and chop (flash is just such a resource hog).

I am very happy with it overall.

[update]
Just a few days ago my systemboard fried. I sent the unit in with free s&h overnight courtesy of Lenovo, had a 24hr repair turnaround time, and they shipped it back to me overnight - I had my Laptop fully up and running within 3 days back in my hands.

The tech was even smart enough to call me to ask for permission to re-image the HDD.

Anyway, whats nice, is that somehow in this new image build of the O/S, the video card is now allocated an entire 1GB of memory (shared from RAM), prev was 512MB. Amazingly, this resolved a lot of issues.

I can now play flash 1080p full playback which I could not do before. I can now also play SCII on low settings which would not play at all previously.

Great service, and a nice laptop.
