Thinkpad Edge 13 Screen Issue - Dark Stains

Hi all,
My Thinkpad Edge 13 has developed small dark stains around the edge of the screen. I've reported this to Lenovo who are adamant that there has been water spilled on the laptop at some point. This is not the case. I have only had the laptop for a month or so and it has never been out of my sight, and only used under normal circumstances.
Has anyone seen this happen before? I've worked in I.T for 15 years and have never seen anything similar.
