PM notifications have changed

Due to the recent upgrade of the forum software (phpBB), the option to display a pop-up window when a member has a Private Message (PM) waiting to be read has been removed. No longer will you get a pop-up when you sign into the forum and there's unread message(s). Now, the only indications members will have is a number that is added to the browser tab like this:



along with the original count in the banner area:



I've been sending PMs since the forum upgrade and have noticed that many of them sit unread even after the recipient has logged in (several times on occasion). Please try to check both of these areas often so that timely communications can take place.

There is any way that I can get an email when I received a Private Message (PM)?

- Sign in
- Click the "User Control Panel" link at the top of the page
- Click "Board preferences" on left side of page (under Options heading)
- Click "Edit notification options"
- Scroll to the bottom of the page for "Someone sends you a private message" option
- Check the box under the Email column on that line
- Click the Submit button at the bottom. Note: Checkbox under Notifications column will always be enabled.
- You should then start receiving notification emails at the address specified in your profile. If you have a Microsoft-owned email (e.g., msn.com, hotmail.com, outlook.com, live.com, etc.), you probably will NOT get notifications. The forum is having problems with deliveries to those domains.

Hi some of my messages are stuck in the outbox and are not in the sent box. Is there a way to fix this on my end?

All PM Messages will remain in the Outbox UNTIL the recipient has read them!
Only then will they move to your Sent box.
All you can do is have patience.

I found the number on the tab, but there is no unread message in my inbox. Wired...

If you have subscribed to a thread, then I believe that will also trigger a "count" appearing in the browser tab.

I find myself in the weird position of having a notification (1), but no new PM and I have already checked all threads I subscribed to. What else could be causing this?

Same here. Just started happening a few moments ago...

Go here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/ucp.php?i=uc ... ation_list and see if there's any messages listed there. If there are, you probably can't delete them (the option is greyed out). I think that these are extra notification messages that the board is generating; over and beyond the normal notices you get for unread PMs and postings to your subscribed threads/forums. I have just changed a board setting which should automatically delete these notifications after 1 day. Hopefully this will alleviate some of these notices.

Thanks, that did the trick. The cause was an old thread that hadn't been replied to for months. No wonder I couldn't find it. Must have been a glitch since I checked out that thread a long time ago.
