Forum donations for upgrades
Forum donations for upgrades
If you've noticed the new maintenance outage announcements, you know that Bill is actively working on upgrading the forum software and fixing the performance issues we've been having. Doing this costs money which comes straight out of Bill's pocket.
Bill doesn't charge us any member fees for the forum, and while he makes a little off the ads at the top, if you can donate even a couple of dollars towards the upgrade effort, it would probably be appreciated. I've donated mine this morning; how about you??
Thanks!

Hey, where dit go?
I would like to make a donation but, since the upgrade, I can't seem to locate the link. Is it right in front of my face and I'm missing it or is it gone? I use Firefox 3.0.4, BTW. I'm guessing it's one more thing to be worked out. Maybe we should move it higher in the queue?

It's not firefox, the donate button is gone in IE6 too. If somebody could post a link here, or even get Bill to put the button back, it would be greatly appreciated (I'm sure by more than just me.)

The button will return soon. It's on a short list of items to be worked on associated with the top banner section of the site. Thanks for considering to donate.

Re: Forum donations for upgrades
Thanks for bumping this thread, Janet. I hadn't seen it before and have never noticed a donate button, maybe I should have looked for one.
The site is not one I use often but it a vey valuable resource when I do need it. (and I must have been using it for many years - maybe someone could update the FAQ with a history of the board, wouldn't that be intersting??)

Re: Forum donations for upgrades
Even though I'm absolutely broke at the moment, I just donated slightly (just slightly) above the 2 cents that GomJabbar mentioned.
As a humble way to say thank you for the best place for Thinkpad discussion (and many other topics actually) in the Internet.
Re: Forum donations for upgrades
I also find this site extraordinarily useful, so I've donated using the link provided by RealBlackStuff, as seen below. Kudos to everyone who makes thinkpads.com a great place!

Re: Forum donations for upgrades
I too donated via the PayPal link provided by RealBlackStuff .. and received an email receipt from PayPal, promptly. But, how do I know for sure that the money ended up in Bill Morrow's account? CBA
Re: Forum donations for upgrades
Check your PayPal Account Overview -- find your payment in current transactions -- if it has not been received in Bill's account, your transaction will show pending / funds not collected -- if Bill's account has been credited and your funds are in his account, your transaction will show complete.

Re: Forum donations for upgrades
The PayPal side looks good, no problem, but, as I don't have Bill's details, I don't know if he got the money. As I typically get a confirmation of receipt (not just from PayPal) for this kind of transactions .. I was looking for something from the ultimate recipient...! No big deal, so, let's forget the matter. CBA

CeeBee: "No big deal, so, let's forget the matter"
I agree not a big deal, but I do know from experience that Bill absolutely appreciates any Forum donations and usually sends a note -- I'm guessing the Forum transfer to a new server is currently taking up a LOT of Bill's time, and also guessing you'll receive a note after the 'chaos' settles down.
From one Forum Member to another, I appreciate you (and others in this thread) taking your time and $$ to contribute to the Forum -- this place is awesome because of Forum members like you

Re: Forum donations for upgrades
Just noticed that the PayPal logo at the top of the page does not link to Bill's account. Since that's the case, the best thing to do would be to contact Bill via PM and he should be able to give you his PayPal details. Send the PM to BillMorrow.

thanks for the hard work and wonderful community. Somehow it's hard to see this topic and I never noticed it.
I know in some forums we setup local meetups and maybe we can talk about nerdy things and trade hardware.
