Strange Bubbling on lip of X1 case

#1 Post by dcpillai » Sat Jun 19, 2021 3:07 am

I am a long term Thinkpad user and have probably had close to 7 to 8 different Thinkpads. It is strange that this problem has only occurred with my X1 Carbon 6th Generation notebook as it is the most I have spent on a Thinkpad ever. I contacted Thinkpad support but they told me that it was "user damage" which I find difficult to accept.

The pictures are here: https://imgur.com/a/Bul0lhG

I thought it best to ask the members of this forum whether they had a similar issue, and if so, if can indeed be "user damage". Note that the lip seems to be rubber and is bubbling outward which to my mind cannot equate to "user damage". If there were gouges in the rubber I can understand them coming to such a finding. Or could it be caused by the use of alcohol wipes? Any input would be welcome.

And lastly what do you call the part of the X1 that is affected?

Thanks and regards.

That looks very much like paint coming off, which has been destroyed by your alcohol-abuse.
Alcohol dissolves paint and can cause those bubbles.

Your pictures look like the keyboard bezel a.k.a. palmrest.
