X1 Carbon, Generation 11, Memory Upgrade

#1 Post by Jamma » Mon Jul 08, 2024 1:08 pm

Hi there, I was looking to upgrade the memory on my ThinkPad X1 Carbon, generation 11, from 512GB, to 1TB. Does anyone know which make and model number would be the most reliable and suitable for the job? Thanks

All SSDs are fast in my experience, so one won't seem significantly better or worse than the next in practical terms. Failure rates are pretty low, so if you have an issue down the road, it probably just bad luck more than anything else. I'd say just get a drive from a reliable brand in the correct size and you should be good. I mostly buy used SSDs and memory on eBay as it offers the best value. Good luck.

I'd avoid:

* SSDs with QLC flash
* no-name brands
* extremely cheap SSDs

From personal experience, I've used WD Blue SN570 1TB and it performs well. If you want better performance you could get even better ones like the Crucial P5 Plus or SK Hynix P41 Platinum.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons :lol:
