Help! Want to setup dual boot & copy Win11

#1 Post by StarGehzer » Mon Dec 08, 2025 5:57 pm

I've just bought this refurbished laptop....
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9, Intel Core i7-1185G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 14in WQUXGA, Wi-Fi 6, Fingerprint Reader, Windows 11 Pro
Before I do anything with it I'd like to replace the M.2-2280 512GB with a 1TB drive.
I'm hoping to setup a dual boot, Win11 pro & Linux (I've used Mint in the past)
Is there a tutorial (or something) on how to setup the dual boot & copy the Win11 Pro from the 512GB to the correct partition on the new 1TB drive?
Particular drive recommendations are welcome.
Located in Canada.
Over the years... 760XL, X31, X220, & a 2nd X220

To copy the windows, use Macrium Reflect. Yes it's not supported anymore but it still works fine.

You can follow this guide by Macrium themselves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSdSNAjmdDg

For linux, just boot into the mint install and choose install alongside.
You should be good but always check if your windows partition is still there in the preview.
Also I'd recommend not updating windows anymore because windows update can screw with your linux stuff. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answe ... -partition

Not sure about prices in Canada, but Teamgroup has been good for me for the price (~100)
