Keyboard and trackpoint, X1C13 vs. X1 Nano G1

#1 Post by pgoelz » Mon Mar 09, 2026 5:37 am

To anyone who might have used both the more recent X1 Carbons and the X1 Nano, can you compare the keyboard and trackpoint? I am a very long time user of an X1C3 and love the keyboard and also the trackpoint. The trackpoint in particular is very adjustable and the middle button scroll works great. The touchpad has a lot of setting that allow you to selectively ignore areas like the area just under the physical buttons.

A year ago I bought a used X1 Nano Gen 1 and while I really like the machine, I am finding issues with the keyboard and the trackpoint / trackpad combo. Enough that I am contemplating upgrading to an X1C13 Aura if I can find a used on at a decent price.

My Nano keyboard requires noticeably higher force to register a keystroke and I am finding in particular that it misses space bar presses enough to require editing just about every time I write something. The trackpoint works well for most uses but for some reason, on some web sites that use a scroll function for something other than scrolling the entire page, the middle button scroll is very jerky and way too sensitive. This was not an issue on my old X1C3. And often, I find the trackpad responds to the slightest touch at the to edge where your thumb brushes it while using the middle button. It seems to self adjust after a time but can be annoying when you first start using it.

So.... the question is..... for anyone who has used both, how do the keyboard, trackpoint and touchpad on the newer X1 Carbons (specifically the X1C13) compare in use and adjustability to the older X1 Carbons? I can't find one on display around here to try. Microcenter has a couple but they are not on display.

TIA,
Paul
