Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Ultrabook --when is it due out?
What are the thoughts about this computer from the board here??

I believe they said August for the X1.

The X1 on paper looks fantastic, but the devil's always in the details. Right now we don't know kind of screen it's using or the price, price and value being inevitably linked. If it's got an IPS screen, it could be phenomenal, but then again, if it's priced like the X300, it probably won't sell in huge numbers. I think for myself I'd probably pass. I prefer a notebook with a platter drive, which the X220i I have offers and at .71", the X1 probably won't. If it's SSD only, storage space upgrades will be expensive. The extra 132 pixels HD+ offers doesn't do much for me, especially if it's expensive. Like I said, we won't know much until Lenovo is more forthcoming.

Here's to hoping that the battery won't be glued in, the RAM soldered onto the motherboard with no expansion option after purchase, a proprietary SSD, etc. like the new Macbook pro with retina display.

True. Obviously the X1 Carbon will not be very competitive in terms of pricing, compared to, say, Asus' or Acer's ultrabook offerings. If the X1 Carbon is priced like the X300, and comes with a TN panel, they can just forget about it. For $2000+, I'd better get the new Macbook Pro with Retina display.

Sad that history is repeating. Lenovo must be already aware that people want (at least as an option) hi-res non-TN display. It is being repeated in Lenovo blog discussions over and over. The display component does not need another three years of research and send a spaceship to Mars It is just matter of additional few $ per box. Hopefully if Apple puts decent displays as a standard, Lenovo will have to finally give up on silly saving of few $ on display component to stand competitive.

Again, it is very sad that there are another companies (even Asus) creating the rules than Lenovo

While I'm totally with you, I think the people who post in blogs are enthusiasts and not representative of the market as a whole. It's really the large institution buyers that drive the design and I don't think they care much about IPS, PVA, AFFS, PLS, etc. They care about cost and compatibility, which is how you end you with the X120e or the Edge. They're cheap and work. I hope Lenovo does offer it, but I won't be surprised if they don't.

Now the company's revealed when you'll actually be able to get an X1 Carbon into your hands: August 21st. The 14-inch, three-pound ultrabook is all of 18mm thick at its thickest point, and will come in several different configurations ranging from $1,399 to $1,849.

I ordered mine from Lenovo with in a hour or two after it went on sale. It is now is in production with a new shipping date of 8-24-12 with expected arrival date on 8-30-2012. It is all that I wanted in a new laptop except the limit of 4gb RAM instead of 8.

Not that big of a deal as I seldom use more than one program at a time.
