Hi All,
I wonder if someone could help me with upgrading my Lenovo X1 Carbon 2014. I've had laptop with SIM card reader but without broadband extension card. So, I bought the broadband extension card on the e-bay (Ericsson N5321gw).

I've installed the hardware (extension card was inserted, red and blue cables were connected) and drivers/software from Lenovo website. I've put SIM card to the reader and if iI try to turn it on... there is an information "SIM card is not present... bla bla bla". I've checked different cards of different mobile operators and there is always the same information.

I gave up! Maybe there is somebody here who knows what I do wrong?

Thanks in advance!
BR,
Kuba

Welcome to the forum!
Are you saying that the card is seen by the operating system (i.e., you see it in Device Manager, and the drivers are properly installed) but the SIM card is not recognized? If that's the case, then skip the rest of this note because it does not apply.

However, if the card is not seen by the operating system, then keep reading:
The problem, most likely, is that the card you installed is not a Lenovo-branded card, i.e., it does not have a Lenovo FRU# printed on its label. If the card is not Lenovo-branded -- even if it is the correct make and model as the Lenovo-authorized variety -- then the BIOS will disable the card at bootup. Consequently, the operating system will not see the card. The only solution for that machine is to use a "Lenovo-authorized" card.

You can try this: ThinkPad_X1_8muj18us_NWL
(BIOS 1.70 with whitelist removed)
Look at README to update.
