X1 Carbon 1st gen - battery firmware upgrade fails?
Hi all,
I recently got a pre-loved X1C (type 3460-D5G; BIOS 2.75, W10). So far, it's been great. I just tried to upgrade the battery firmware using the upgrade utility here: http://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/downloads/ds001322. However, the upgrade fails, citing an rather uninformative "The tool was unable to update the battery firmware due to an internal error".
Is the update very recommended, or can I just leave it like that?
Cheers, and thanks for any input.

Welcome to the Forum.
I suggest you check the matching README.TXT 1.16: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n15fu05w.txt and see if there is anything of interest in there.
They also have how-to instuctions in there.
Your X1C1 was only added with update 1.15 in Feb/2016.
Personally I have never installed any such programs, and I have had hundreds of Thinkpads going through my hands.

Re: X1 Carbon 1st gen - battery firmware upgrade fails?
Many thanks for your quick answer and the welcome. I did read the readme and it does apply to my particular X1 (fix: improved battery life for battery 45N1071). But it's no biggie that it's not installing, I'm not particularly expecting any huge differences anyway. I'm doing a regular battery calibration right now but I accept battery runtime will be limited on a 2013 laptop anyway.RealBlackStuff wrote:Welcome to the Forum.

Should anyone have experience with it, I'd love to hear it though

I happen to have such an X1C1.
Just in case, if you manage to install that program, I'd be nieuwsgierig to hear if you experience any noteworthy improvement.

Your are not the only one who's is "nieuwsgierig" about the results...so far I am very happy with my X1C 1st gen, the only thing is battery life.RealBlackStuff wrote:I happen to have such an X1C1.

I am getting about 3.5 hrs out of mine with normal use...battery is at 90% of its original capacity.
