Lenovo updates and BIOS updates unable to install

I have a Lenovo X1-Carbon 4th Gen. I have not been able to install any Lenovo updates since activation in March 2017.
Updates from Microsoft work fine and are uptodate.
Lenovo Support says only solution for Lenovo updates is to totally wipe the disc and install new software they will provide on flash drive.
Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it without wiping the disc?
The task of removing many applications and reinstalling them, not to mention retrieving all my data is daunting :( .

Hello Ham!

A big welcome to Thinkpad Forums!

We have a X1 Carbon 4th Gen (X1C4) running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

1. So do you have problem installing Lenovo System Update?

Please try to uninstall, reboot, then reinstall Lenovo System Update from here:
http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/produ ... s/HT080136

2. From our experience, there really is no need to update Lenovo Thinkpad software unless you have a very specific reason to update.
ie: If your X1C4 Lenovo Software already works, there is no need urgent need to update.

Anyways, try this out and see if this works, report back to this thread, and we'll take it from there!
Good luck!
