I am curious about the text size on the WQHD display compared to the FHD display. I have an older model FHD (T460s) and am pretty pleased with it, but if ordering the new laptop would rather have the higher resolution display for photographic work. Can someone give me an idea of how much smaller the text might be at the recommended resolution?

If you have good eyes you will have no problem getting used to the high resolution.
I also went from FHD to WQHD and I find it very pleasing to use, actually going back and forth to FHD, the latter now feels like low resolution.
FWIW I'm using it with no scaling, the text looks smaller from distance, I tend to use the machine on my lap so it's no problem.

1. We have a X1 Carbon Generation 4 (X1C4) with a WQHD IPS screen.
For your stated photographic work, a WQHD screen resolution may be useful to you!
For our email / Web Browsing purposes, we ended up using FHD (1920x1080) screen resolution,
mainly because of better text legibility for our aging eyes! ymmv
2. May we show you screenshots demonstrating WQHD vs FHD, to give you a better idea of which LCD to choose!

I also have gen 4 X1c and most of the time use it at 1920x1080 (writing, browsing), but switch to WQHD when doing any image / graphics work.
Almost like having two displays.

I was using X250 12.5" 1920x1080 (176 PPI) with 100% zoom (Visual Studio code editor) for a while and it is just fine. The 2560x1440 14"has almost the same pixel density (209 PPI) while 14" 1920x1080 is too low.

Wow, your ThinkPad 560 is still working?
That's a testament to ThinkPad durability, that is almost 20 years ago...
We donated our ThinkPad 560 the moment we (tried) to pry it open for HDD replacement,
it was *very* hard to access. The notebook was wrapped around the HDD it seems...
(Very happy that subsequent ThinkPad HDD replacement was much easier!)
