I just upgraded my thinkpad from an X230 to an X1 C 6th gen due to screen issues on my X230. I'm noticing some differences, and I've read about quality control issues on the X1C, so I don't know if these differences are normal or due to poor quality screens/keyboards.
First I notice that my X1C display (WQHD matte) is not as bright as my X230 IPS screen. The X1C also has a yellow tint to it compared to the X230. I also notice the keyboard on the X1C is not as nice as the X230 (lower key travel?). I don't know if this is also expected.
I feel a little disappointed to be honest, especially since it's the most I've spent on a laptop ($1000+). One of thinkpad lines biggest selling point is the keyboard for me..I am tempted to return the X1C and fix/upgrade my X230.

Re: X1C 6th gen vs. X230
Lower key travel is something I'd expect, but it does not effect typing experience negatively (although takes a bit getting used to, perhaps).
I haven't seen the QHD X1C screens yet, but the FHD screen on the X1C 5th gen seems bright enough (it's brighter than the Thinkpad 25 FHD screen). Screens are a lottery in some sense. Sometimes the same model can have 2-3 different screen options which vary in quality.
Generally, the X1C 5th gen and 6th gen look and feel awesome to me, although I have heard of quality control issues on the 6th gen.

Re: X1C 6th gen vs. X230
I do not have X1C6 (gen 6) to compare.
But I do have a X230 TFT LCD (HD 1366x768) with 200 nits which is in front of me.
And I also have a X1C4 (gen 4) with non-touch IPS LCD WQHD (2560x1440) with 300 nits also in front of me.
1) Key travel:
Yes, X230 key travel is slightly more than my X1C4, but from my own touch-typist experience, you can get used to it.
I use my X1C4 as daily driver, and typing (key travel) is not an issue for me.
2) X1C4 vs X230 LCD screens: both are sitting in front of me to compare.
The X1C4 IPS LCD screen is better than my X230 IPS LCD screen, just by eyeballing it.

vs
X1C4 (gen 4) non-touch IPS LCD (WQHD 2560x1440) with 300 nits
Hope this helps!
