Here is yet another 15" X1 Extreme (2018) review:

Since X1 Extreme uses a 135W AC Power Adapter: (Also the ThinkPad 15" P1 same situation):

"Important detail: 75W is the maximum power that can be drawn from an airline seat, so while most ultralight laptops do not exceed 45-65W, computers at this power level will probably trip the seat’s fuse, even though you may not even do something intensive. Just a good thing to keep in mind if you plan to work while flying."

Don't worry about the power draw there is altimeter inside the machine that will activate airplane mode. This will inturn limit the power draw from the adapter to 75W to prevent this issue. Though it isn't too good at DISABLING itself. I saw a video of someone with a P50 having their machine do that.

Does anyone have an actual machine to try out on an airline to confirm this?

If this is true, we should inform above website, to correct this well-intentioned mis-information!

Does this mean that in Nairobi or Mexico City it won't draw more than 75W?

Or does it work on a sudden drop in pressure/increase in altitude? In which case what happens when I drive up a mountain?

It all seems a bit prone to error to me.

No...correction it will completely disable the charge port all together and an airplane icon will come up in the tray. I don't remember how it detects being on an airplane but it does. You can override this though by telling it not to go into airplane mode. You can bring a 65W charger on the plane and use the computer off that to get some extra battery life but the X1 extreme is likely a total power hog so it is likely to be no more than a small battery boost.
