$18 X1C1, restored. Now I have problems.

I figured out what was wrong with it- the old power jack broke, then shorted out the board. I replaced it with a Taobao X1C1 Motherboard- unexpectedly it came with 8GB of soldered RAM, with the only problem wrong with the board being the Serial is for a T431s. Then come the problems.

1. The original metal retainer refuses to go back in and lie flush. I taped it down for now, but it might be better for the X1C as the 1st gen flat plugs like to break and kill the laptop once jolted.

2. The front palmrest refuses to lie flush to the bottom, and makes a clicking noise if I push down. Fixed it by applying electric tape, but the screws are completely screwed in and it really should not be clicking.

3. The battery is butt- TLP tells me it's at 82% health, but I go from 100% to 10% in 3 hrs with a few firefox tabs open. Is this normal for a X1C1?

4. The left trackpoint button feels scratchy and less tactile compared to the right one- can't figure out why.

Other than those issues, the laptop is cherry. Shame I can't daily drive it over my X240 as the battery dies so darn quick.

Hello Geartooth, I remember an X1 I've restored had terrible battery life for having 70% battery health, stayed on only for an hour and a 45 minutes in Windows 7. :/
I would think perhaps there is a retaining tab that is not setting with the X1C palmrest/top case that is giving you the clicking problems.

Yeah. I managed to pawn it off for $178 USD, which was a tidy profit. Not regretting it very much.
