Thinkpad X1 Carbon Tablet Gen 4 (will it ever come?)

#1 Post by tangawanga » Wed Sep 04, 2019 9:30 am

Dear community,

The gen 3 tablet is not available on the lenovo website anymore. What is happening? The device is a year and something old now and already discontinued? When will gen 4 come out?

Thank you.

It's still showing available on the both the U.S. and Canadian versions of the Lenovo site:
https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/tablets/wi ... 2TP2CP0113

Maybe they don't have any in stock in the Netherlands for some reason? Or maybe as you suggest, there is a new model in the works so they are not replenishing the stock in different countries once it is gone.

I have had the experience of some Lenovo products remaining available for *years* on the U.S. site even though they had disappeared a long time ago from the Canadian site.

Yeah, the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Tablet Gen 3 is also sold out in our region also...
Perhaps it's just an inventory allocation situation.

However, as the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Tablet Gen 3 was announced Jan 2018, let's keep our fingers crossed!

Looks like it's safe to say Lenovo has given up on producing x1 Carbon tablets.

Looks like the X12 Detachable Gen 1 is the spiritual successor!

Just to clarify, that leak is about the X1 Carbon Extreme Gen 4, not an X1 Carbon Tablet variant or X12 detachable.

An unofficial leak showing upcoming (unannounced/unrealeased) X1 Extreme Gen 4 external look only, with 16:10 aspect ratio LCD and Intel CPU.

Take it for what you will :)

Still no normal keyboard. Obviously, there is just no space for the 7-row. Look at that tiny touchpad and very slim bezel above the keyboard!

Just to clarify, that leak is about the X1 Carbon Extreme Gen 4, not an X1 Carbon Tablet variant or X12 detachable. By the time I got to the site, the video had been pulled down off YouTube.

As dr_st notes, in terms of changes, there is still no movement on the keyboard front. Though now that I've had an X1 Carbon Tablet Gen 3 and a P52 for a couple years, I'm starting to become a bit more used to the (definitely degraded!) typing experience and layout on the "new" chicklet/island style Lenovo keyboards. And I'm now more or less resigned to the fact that keyboards will just never be as good as they used to be.

I am encouraged by the prospect of a 16:10 screen, though. And in fact, the 16:9 aspect ratio is one of the reasons that I've held off on picking up any of the rest of the X1 series beyond the X1 Tablet Gen 3 (which has a 3:2 aspect ratio and a very nice 3000x2000 IPS touch screen). I'm a bit curious to see the ports, screen, and CPU options in the upcoming X1 Carbon Extreme Gen 4 from that leak.
