Isn't it obvious that until they start making 7-row keyboards again, they will keep on being garbage?

Wow, many thanks for everyone's heads up!

We were just about to pull the trigger for a X1E2 (X1 Extreme Gen 2), decided to make a last minute check on this great ThinkPads.com forum...

Looks like X1E2 still need time to iron out issues... will give it some time and revisit this procurement later on ;)

Thanks again!

PS: I suggest reading comments too. The 4K oled seems to be really weird.

Across the board for all new models, or just the X1E2?

Unfortunately, the x1e is still one of the best you can get if you value scalability, trackpoint, socketed components etc. I am just in the purchasing process. (tedious Lenovo experience...). If my purchase in the US fails, I go for 2nd hand P1.

I was considering the Gen 2 for the OLED screen, but may just keep my Gen1 a bit longer.

==>We are willing to source a new X1E2 (X1 Extreme Gen 2) with a 2 TB SSD when it comes out in our region, along with a 1080p 500nits IPS LCD screen to extend battery life while on the field (1080p IPS LCD screen use much less battery power as compared to the 4k OLED screen).

- - - - - -
From our own experience using X1E1 (X1 Extreme Gen 1) as a workhorse machine for over a year... especially in view of this Covid-19 enforced home office work:

We love our X1E1, but battery life consideration *SHOULD* have overrode our (clouded) judgement for 4k OLED screen...

~Our X1E1 4k OLED screen gave us a serious battery hit, to the point that we're paranoid whenever we bring out our X1E1 to the field without AC power brick with us...always worried if it will run out of battery before job is done...

~On the occasional ;) time we watch movies, it's on our ThinkVision M14 external LCD monitor connected to our X1E1.
ie: We almost *never* watch movies on the 4k OLED screen of X1E1. (By the way, movies on 4k OLED screen of X1E1 was gorgeous!)

Just our 2 cents...

Just a day ago I was close to buying a used X1 Carbon Thinkpad Gen 2 when I came to understand that the Thinkpad keyboard that I so love isn't in this machine! No FN button at bottom left, no FN buttons, but the kicker was absent L/C/R mouse buttons at the top of the trackpad.

The X1 Carbon Gen 2 was the most unique and worst Thinkpad in this regard. Subsequent generation restored all these.
