Are the lids between X1 Carbon G6 - 7 - 8 compatible with each other? I was thinking about picking up a G7 (with a 10th gen processor) and swapping out the lid since my G6 has a 1440p display and the G7 has a 1080p display. I believe I could probably pull the displays and swap them, but that's a much bigger job.
The PARTS are for sure different according to the PSREF (https://download.lenovo.com/Images/Part ... R437_B.jpg & https://download.lenovo.com/Images/Part ... 8073_B.jpg)
but it seems like the attachment points look the same (https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Th ... ml#6164777 & https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Th ... #4006354-1)
The routing of the display cable could be an issue if they are different lengths (or different connectors, but it doesn't seem that way).
Any thoughts?

Lid swap for X1 Carbon Gen 6 / 7 / 8?
Re: Lid swap for X1 Carbon Gen 6 / 7 / 8?
Who knows. Very few people try such mods nowadays. My guess is that it will not happen, as X1 cases are recycled for one year and then changed in the next generation. Thus a mod like that is likely between X1C5 and X1C6 but not so much between X1C6 and X1C7/8.
Could still work, since there are no latches and sizes are about the same. Go on and check motherboards and see if you can locate the video port. If they are in the same location, it could work. But more important, check the hinges. They must be the same. Tolerances are very close on the X1 Series. If they are not exactly the same, it might either not lay flat on the palmrest when closed (excess tolerance), or break due leverage (shortage of tolerance).
I guess you'll have to try and tell us yourself. Worst case scenario is that you have to use it with the FHD display. Not sure about the X1C7, but on my X1C5 the only option for FHD is the low power, 400 nit version, which is a very nice screen.
