New X1 Carbon Gen10 - Thoughts?
Funny how the times have changed. I always said that for as long as I have worked on computers/laptops, I would NEVER take a job in IT. Well, here I am and have really been for the past 5.5 years. Working Help Desk for a bank.
Anyway, my employer is having me test a few new laptops for our rollout next year. In the past, we have stuck with HP Elitebook X360 1030 G2-G8 series, because they are lightweight, foldable and touchscreen. However, it is not looking like they are going to be releasing the G9 version, in time for us to order for next year. (I am currently typing on the G8 version of the above with Win11)
Well, given this predicament, I am taking my opportunity to recommended Lenovo, as I always have. So, work is ordering me a brand new one, which I will reimage with Win11, and install our tools.
This is what they are ordering for me, and should be here tomorrow:

Any insight on this, as I have never used an X1 Carbon.
Thanks in advance!

It is a good laptop, albeit I think the Alder Lake P28 series CPUs are a misfit here and that Lenovo should only offer U15 CPUs.
You can find a review of a very similar model here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Th ... 310.0.html
Overall, I think biggest weaknesses are:
- Chassis gets dirty quickly
- battery life is less than older Gen 9 model
- CPU performance could be better for the P28 configurations
Biggest pros: Very lightweight, great input devices for such a mobile laptop, lots of ports for a compact model, high quality materials and components
Of course, if you used the EliteBook X360 because it is a convertible, I have to ask: Why the X1 Carbon, which is a normal laptop? I think a X1 Yoga G7 or the ThinkPad X13 Yoga G3 might have been better choices if you need the convertible features

They were using the X360s because they thought that they would be using them more like iPads, which were slowly eliminated. At this point, I am only aware of two users that use that function and it is ONLY to flip the keyboard downward, with the screen up to use a regular keyboard instead of the laptop keyboard. (10 key use)
The only real need is a touchscreen, so that some users can have customers sign on the screen if their Topaz isn't working.

UPDATE: I just have to say that I am LOVING this thing! Even the Network Administrator, who swears by HP and asked me to pick and test a machine of my choice...as long as it met the requirements, sent back his HP Demo and says that he actually likes mine more. We might just be switching! However, even if we don't switch globally for some reason, at least I will get to keep this machine! The only reason that we might not switch is because he is now ordering an X360 1040 (we had been using the 1030) G9. It is larger than he wanted, but he misses the feel of the 1030 G8, and it doesn't look like HP will be making a 1030 G9.
So, finger crossed that we make the change globally, because I think these are night and day better. And if we have someone that REALLY needs the function of the X360, we will look at the Yoga.

What about great ergos and legendary keyboard feel?

You may already be aware of this, but unless you are using memory in dual channel mode, the Iris graphics revert to Intel UHD graphics. The second memory slot needs a stick of ram to enable the Iris Graphics.

Love this X1 Carbon Gen 10 !
Been using X1 Carbon Gen 10 for a month now, it's very similar to that of X1 Carbon Gen 9.
In fact, cannot really tell the difference between the two in a "blind" test.
Keyboard feels good on X1 Carbon Gen 10 also!
We ordered the "maximum" RAM possible for future-proofing, as this is soldered and cannot be upgraded later on...
