Can't control X1 Extreme trackpoint like on my T60p

#1 Post by StevenD » Thu Dec 08, 2022 9:34 pm

Hi,
Yes, until a week ago, I was still using a T60p and Windows XP, because it was set up exactly right and worked perfectly! I had tried an X1 Carbon a while back, but had to send it back because the left mouse button didn't work unless you really really smashed on it: an easy click wouldn't register.

Well, I finally bit the bullet, and I have here an X1 Extreme gen 5/ Windows 11. The left mouse button works most of the time, though still not on an easy click, but maybe I can get used to pushing it harder.

But still, I don't have nearly the precision with the trackpoint/cursor as I do on the T60p. On the T60p I can just about put my finger on the button and *will* it to go exactly where I want, whereas on the Extreme, it's soooo hard to control the location of the cursor. I played with a lot of different sensitivity/mouse speed settings, and still no go. I believe that the problem could be at least improved if I could get, not more *speed*, but more of what they call "sensitivity," which appears to be the force that is required to get the cursor moving. I have it set all the way to 11, which is much better than a minimum setting, but I think it's still quite a bit more force than I'm used to. It's under "Elan Trackpoint for Thinkpad" in the settings.

Anyone know something to try?

Thanks,
Steve

Get one of these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/862901861/ ... inted-caps

This 3rd party cap helps to make the TrackPoint feel faster on newer models.

Thanks. I ordered the caps, but I'm pessimistic that they'll improve things *enough*.

I'm thinking I'll have to return this unit unless I find a solution. Controlling the cursor with this trackpoint/button combo makes me crazy every time I open the machine. Are there *alternate* drivers that can be used?
