Hi,
Thinking of purchasing X1 Carbon Gen 10 with this monitor screen fitted: 14" 2.8K (2880 x 1800), OLED, Anti-Reflection, Non-Touch, HDR 500, 100%DCI-P3, 400 nits
The thing with that monitor panel is the resolution — it is pretty high, much higher than I am used to and my understanding is that the higher the resolution the harder it is to read text on the monitor. So can someone tell me if this resolution of monitor can be set to use/display a resolution of 1920 x 1200? And, if that can be done, are there any implications for performance of the monitor?
I would note that my current desktop monitor is resolution 1920 x 1200 and I find that I can view text on that monitor very well.

X1 Carbon Gen 10 - Screen Resolution Question
Re: X1 Carbon Gen 10 - Screen Resolution Question
Rather than adjusting the resolution, more likely you're going to want to change the scaling on display as very few people will able to use it at its native resolution. Scaling works pretty well in Windows these days and will probably be set to at least 125% out of the box on the X1, possibly higher. The highest resolution displays offered on the X1 tend to give the best image quality, but hit the battery harder, so you're likely to get less of it. I presume your WUXGA desktop is much larger, making it easier to read.

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 10 - Screen Resolution Question
Thanks very much for the response — following which I had a brainwave to do some kind of test on my desktop monitor. The monitor has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 so I set it to display 1920 x 1080 and I got a black blank band all the way across the top of the screen. So that is what happens when I start messing with screen resolution (it's a non-starter, period!).
I went back to the (native) resolution of the monitor, 1920 x 1200, and then I tried changing the scaling and wasn't impressed with the result of that. Text characters look horrible and are quite blurred.
Taking stock of all that, and your comments, I think I'll go with the native option of a X1 Gen 10 display panel of 1920 x 1200 and hope for the best when it arrives.

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 10 - Screen Resolution Question
You cannot test scaling with a desktop monitor whose native res is only 1920x1200, it doesn’t have enough pixels for proper scaling. I have the exact 10th gen X1C you mention with the OLED display and it looks gorgeous - full-screen and sharp, no black bars - when using 125% or even 150% scaling. The only downside to this screen is it shortens battery life by a lot, because OLED screens are power hungry, but they look so good it’s worth it.
