Hard drive in the ThinkPad X1?
The new X1 is looking quite nice (didn't see a forum for it yet) but I'm holding back until I know for sure I can replace the HDD with an SSD later down the road rather than shelling out $280 for a 128GB one. Is it a standard 2.5" drive? SATA II?
(Also, is there any point to upgrading the WiFi adapter? The stock card is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 and it goes up to Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN) and Ultimate-N 6300 (3x3 AGN) but I've always been reasonably satisfied even with 802.11g speeds...)

It uses a Travelstar Z7K320 in one configuration:

Re: Hard drive in the ThinkPad X1?
I found the FRU parts list for the X1: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-77531. A few interesting details:
- The 128GB SSD is just an Intel X-25M (http://download.intel.com/design/flash/ ... asheet.pdf), presumably the 7mm version. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 76752.html
- The motherboards are the same regardless of hard drive (as they should be). Does this mean that any X1 can have a hard drive replaced with an SSD and reap all of the benefits? Still curious if SATA 3Gb/s is the limit or if it actually supports SATA II.
- Core i7 is mentioned, as well as lower-end specs like 2GB of RAM.

SATA I is 1.5Gb/s.
SATA II is 3Gb/s.
SATA III is 6Gb/s.
