Helix PSU question 20v or 12v?

#1 Post by blink » Wed Mar 17, 2021 8:24 pm

Just bought a helix 11.6 1.2GHz Core M-5Y71 from a popular auction site as i spilt liquid over my old trusty x201 :( & thought i would try a convertible.
Does anybody know if standard thinkpad 20v PSU is safe to use as some reports say it is 12v?

I have quite a few 20v knocking around some older barrel tips & rectangle adapters but no 12v ones.
Many Thanks

Have you checked the label on the Helix's charger? Usually the output voltage is written there.

One of the rare anomalies, that Helix uses a 12V/3A/36W rectangle charger

Thanks for the replies its not arriving until tomorrow, Strange & a shame it doesnt use 20v as it would be far easier.
Some people say they are compatible, Some sellers even list them.
yes im sure they work but may damage the Helix?
I know most devices only take the amps that they need but i dont think they are so smart with voltage

Indeed. Devices to be specifically designed to accept a wide range of input voltages. Otherwise it's usually within +1V/-0.5V or +/-5% (whichever is smaller) of the nominal voltage.
