SD card problem

Put in a new mini SD (one I had around). First plugged it into my PC to transfer files from my Phone.

Plugged into TPT twice. First time canceled the copy transfer program.

Opened Note everthing to resptore the latest backup and it could not find the file - which I had copied to the SD card.

Tried again.
Put in SD card and accepted the copy file program.

I was able to transfer the files to Internal memory and then NE read and took in the data.

Whey wasn't this able to happen from the SD card?

Does this mean that programs and data (like movies) cannot be run from the SD (external) card but only be used to transfer files to Internal memory. (I'm glad I got the 64 GB model.

Also plugged a 64 GB USB stick into the machine go the same option but couldn't read and run anything directly from the card.
