Installing Windows 10 on a Ideapad Lynx K3011?

#1 Post by baertracks » Tue Jun 08, 2021 7:37 pm

I remember 10 years ago (or so) waiting impatiently for the Lenovo hybrid tablet to come onto the market. But when I final got my hands on the Lynx K3011 I was disappointed. It was nice and sleek, but I just didn't "bond" with it, like I've done with all my ThinkPads. So the Lynx K3011 has been setting (aka lost) on a shelf for quite a few years. And now I can't recall my password!

Would be possible (hardware-wise) to do a fresh installation of Windows 10 on this Lynx K3011?

Or, if not, then could I do a reset of the 8.1 OS to wipe out everything on my drive and reset the password?

Thanks for your advice!

My installation procedure for Windows 10 on a desktop/laptop that has a preinstalled OEM Windows 8.1 goes like this:

1. Check if the BIOS is in UEFI or Legacy/CSM mode
2. Download Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft
3. Create installer USB disk via Rufus (set format to UEFI or BIOS depending on the result of #1
4. Determine which Edition of Windows is installed (Home, Single Language, Professional, Enterprise, etc.)
5. Create a text file named EI.CFG inside the sources directory of the Windows 10 installation disk
6. Edit the EI.CFG file

Code: Select all

[EditionID]
Enterprise
[Channel]
OEM
[VL]
0
Change "Enterprise" with the edition that's installed in your machine, or you can delete it and the [EditionID] line so you can choose which edition at the start of the installation process.

Back up your files, boot with the newly-created Win10 install disk, delete all partitions, and install.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch

Thanks! These links actually helped me indirectly.
I had already tried resetting my Microsoft account password (as prompted by the Lynx login screen).
In reading on of those links, however, I realized that my installation was not made via Microsoft, but rather as an offline account.
That prompted me to go back and look for more passwords that I used in 2013 (around the time that I got the lynx).
I didn't find the lynx-specific PW, but did fine a password that I frequently used in those days, and it also worked on the Lynx.
Thanks for nudging me in the right direction.
