Thinkpad and Gobi 2000 on Win8

#1 Post by Christian » Tue Mar 05, 2013 7:31 pm

Hi,

I haven't been able to get my Gobi 2000 card to work with Windows 8. The card is installed in a W510 and was actually included directly from Lenovo but it has yet to work with Windows 8.

Does any of you guy have this card running on Windows 8 and did you do you any special steps to make it work?

The drivers install just fine (found some beta drivers) and I can see the card but it constantly defauls to Verizon Wireless and I have tried to install it using the DEFAULTIMAGE=6 parameter but that didn't change anything.

I hope some of you did manage to get it up and running and that you can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

i hve the same problem... dhe device is recognised by device manager, the drivers are available and everything works, if using via GPS enabler (that recognizes the GPS port), and than comunicates with garmin mobile PC or some similar program.

the problem is: gobi is not recognised by windows 8, that means it's not listed in sensors, and unavailable to switch on in location settings.
because of that i'm unable to use it with any app downloaded from app store.

the same thing goes for gyroskop. it works just fine with activeprotection software from lenovo, but it's not recognised by win8 itself (in sensors section) and therfore doesn't work with apps.

anyone knows how to fix that?

Hi kklemn,

I am not sure about the GPS or Gyro as I haven't found any use for them on my laptop, however I was able to make the modem work. I wrote an article on what I did which you can read about here:

Good luck!
