Win 8 Eat all my RAM :c

#1 Post by Joppe » Fri Aug 01, 2014 6:54 am

Hi, My eng are Bad I know that, but I do my best

I have 8GB Of RAM in my thinkpad, and I don't do any hard stuff like 3D-making.
Just basic stuf like Excel and word, Minecraft and Warcraft 3.

Often I got errors saying, The app was terminated, you need more memmory.

I know that my PC can take 2 x 8 GB of RAM, do I rely have to upgrade or are it a problem with Windows 8?
Back in the days I could do all this apps with 3GB ram at Windows xP.

I use Microsoft Office on my Windows 8 computers all the time, and I often multitask heavily. Two of these computers are just Core2 Duo and have only 2GB of RAM, and yet Windows 8 has been perfectly smooth for many months. In fact, one of these machines has been in use 24/7 since I put Windows 8 on it in Oct 2012. I have never had such impressive stability with XP or 7, though I have found Vista to be about as good.

How much virtual memory does your computer have? Stability issues might arise when the paging file is too small.

BTW, looking up your previous posts, I noticed that you have an E530c. Is this the Thinkpad in question? Are you using the factory-installed Windows 8? Did you add RAM yourself? Have you run MEMTEST86 to confirm the RAM is good?
Dell Latitude 7370 (QHD+, 2.84lb); HP Pavilion x2 12-b096ms (1920x1280, 3.14lb); Microsoft Surface 3 (1920x1280, 2.00lb);
Dell OptiPlex 5040 SFF (Core i5-6600); Acer ET322QK, T272HUL; Crossover 404K; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Yes it's the same PC :)
I use the "Factori-installed" Win 8 :p
I did the RAM uppgrade by my self.

What's a memtest?
Tell me how to do that :)

Joppe, memtest86 is a software tool to check the memory on your machine, you can google "memtest" it for a download link. :thumbs-UP:

Their website has a lot of info about the tool, and you can read through that before actually trying it on your machine. Not sure if it is totally freeware though, you'll need to check.

A Kyocera sighting after about 3 years. Nice to see you're still out there Mike.
