GMA 4500 driver for Win 8 and 10

#1 Post by TPFanatic » Sat Oct 01, 2016 11:47 pm

This driver from Dell,
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/ ... erId=287YR

has been tested by me to bring the Intel graphics tray (accessible by right click on the taskbar icon, or on desktop, then -> Graphics Properties...) back to Thinkpads with Intel GMA 4500 MHD graphics running Windows 10, including my Switchable Graphics frankenpad. I was directed to this by an obscure link somewhere else on the internet, maybe Lenovo forums, for the same problem of this missing feature being missing in Windows 8. So here it is on the TP Forum for anyone who wants that program back and is running 8 or 10 with it missing.

Thanks. But problem is: that's a very old version of the driver (8.15.10.2104). The most up to date driver is 8.15.10.2869.

I wonder, though, if the actual driver can be combined with the older setup script and user interface to bring a complete solution.

One may try to install the older driver via the setup script, which will make the tray app available, then perform a driver-only update via the Device Manager, and navigate to the directory where the INF for the newer driver is.

That's assuming there are actually any worthwhile features/improvements in the new version.

Intel GMA 4500M / MHD: https://www.tenforums.com/graphic-cards ... mayor.html

I don't know if you might think this driver is useful, but this is the driver I use in Windows 10 and has the tray icon and Intel graphics app all working. This driver is modded and based on the 8.15.10.2869 driver. I know the driver works well with Windows 7 and 10, but I don't know about Windows 8. One thing to remember is if you do install the driver is to disable Auto Driver Update via Windows Update. You can find out how to do this here: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disa ... windows-10

It worked! I owe you a beer.

(The driver in tenforums breaks a lot of things. Firefox detects a discrepancy between the reported version in the registry and the one in the DLL and shuts down acceleration. But it enables the Control Panel as promised. So I installed that first and manually upgraded the driver to the modified driver from Dell. Nothing fancy; you just edit the INF file to change the NT version to get it to install on 10.)

I'm not after features but after stability. I'm sure they released the 2869 driver to solve minor issues with 2702, which is the version that M$ uses to build the basic driver. The 2869 has full OpenGL 2.1 acceleration and video decoding.
