T440p BIOS Password Reset

#1 Post by TwEEtY0010 » Sat Mar 27, 2021 2:37 pm

Hello.
Does the method of resetting the BIOS password by shorting SCL and SDA work? Will it work on my T440p?

No, it won't.
You'll need a programmer like CH314A, a SOIC-8 cable and another laptop to use it with.
You'll need to dump the locked BIOS, make changes in that dump, then reload the modified dump.
Any more is NOT to be discussed on this forum.

I have Ch341A and SOIC8. I can do a BIOS dump with this.
What exactly needs to be changed in this BIOS dump?

While I understand and agree with the principle here, there are many, many, older Thinkpads headed for the dumpster whos life could be usefully extended if they weren't locked. Not sure how you could provide information for older Thinkpads that wouldn't encourage theft of the latest one. Maybe there's a way?
