Broken T430 screen

#1 Post by oowtfmang » Sun Dec 02, 2012 6:59 pm

Hey guys, long time lurker here. Just checking in because I've finally run into some problems with the second Lenovo laptop I have. I recently bought a new T430 maybe two months back. It has screen with the higher resolution 1400x900 I believe. A quick search on Google has lead me a website but they don't carry the higher resolution one. Does anybody know if this will be an easy fix? I'm pretty handy with DIY stuff but I've only done basic things such as build my own computer, replace ram on laptops, etc. but I've never replaced a screen before. Thoughts?

Thanks,

J

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear of your trouble.

According to a parts lookup of another similar T430 you may be looking for the following.

FRU 93P5693 Nozomi-3/ Shinai-3, AUO 14.0" HD

Making the LCD swap with a couple tools and some patience is certainly possible.

Hi Brad. Thanks for the quick reply. Would it be advisable to buy this part through Lenovo or is there another place where I can get this OEM product?

You need to check what your current screen resolution is, the T430 either comes with 1366x768 or 1600x900.
The 1440x900 stopped with T410.

Depending on resolution, if you want to go for a different one, you will have to change the lcd cable also.

You can find genuine screens (i.e. with a FRU marking etc.) on Ebay for lot cheaper and brand new ones. Only catch is most of those ship from China, so you might end up paying $40+ for Express mail. Still cheaper than buying from Lenovo directly, who will charge you at least 3 times or higher.

Also lot of people seem to have poor opinion about the AUO screens, which display screen door effect. Better to go with Samsung, LG-Phillips or others.

I am not sure about the cable. (the post above) I believe that just the cable to the camera and thinklight has 2 varieties and they need to change only if you are putting in a touch screen, and lots of other things would need to change also if you were doing that.

May be the cables will work, but the manual lists different FRU #'s for HD+ and HD cables

04W6865 LCD Cable HD Amp
04W6866 LCD Cable HD Fox

04W6867 LCD Cable HD+ Amp
04W6868 LCD Cable HD+ Fox

Also another interesting thing, may be it is a typo but it lists 2nd generation processors in T430 list. If it is not a typo, does it mean 3rd generation might work in T420's also ? i.e pin compatible atleast.
