T430i CPU upgrade

#1 Post by megapc » Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:22 pm

Hi,

I am thinking of upgrading the CPU/processor in T430i. Can anyone tell me what is the fasted CPU currently supported for this machine?

Thanks!

I believe someone over at Notebook Review put a i7-3612QM quad core into the T430. That'd probably be the fastest from a raw horsepower perspective. The i7-3520 is the fastest CPU Lenovo offers on the T430. If you're just doing typical stuff, you're probably better off getting a SSD or mSATA SSD.

Thank you for the reply. Does it work on both T430i and T430?

I've no idea, as I don't have a T430 or T430i and 3612QM to test it. I would presume so, but that's a guess on my part.

Do bear in mind that a CPU swap will void your warranty, though....

Yes. I am aware of the warranty issue. If T430i has the exact same internal component as T430, then I will think any CPU that fits in T430 will work on T430i. Anyone has that information?

I don't recall anyone swapping out the CPU on a T430i. If it worked in the T430, I suspect it'll work in the T430i, but like I said, that's a guess on my part. They tend not to re-invent the wheel, but you may have to be the guinea pig on this one if that's what you want. Worst case probably is it doesn't work and you'll have to sell it.

If you do decide to try it out with one of the CPU's above, please do post back and let us (and other folks searching later) know how you made out...

If I can not find the information, I will try swapping it after the warranty expires. Surely will post back when I do.
