T430s WiFi Card antenna wires

#1 Post by puma » Tue May 14, 2013 7:58 pm

Hey guys, I noticed while trying to install an msata that the black wire going to the centrino card was unplugged.. There is a white and a black one connected to it. I assume this is for the antennae? How was my wifi working if the black one was unplugged? I tried to plug it back and it seems not secure.. not sure why. I bent some piece that looked out of place and put it back. I think it will hold. Just looking for some info on that wire.
Thanks

I was replacing my T400's screen when I discovered one of my wifi antennas was severed! After putting it all back together (minus one antenna) everything still works.

I did a bit of research on it and it seems there are three antennae for spatial multiplexing purposes.

From what I gathered, you don't necessarily need all three antennae. Three antennae will give you a better signal (theoretically) than just one or two because each one is at a slightly different angle. Long story short, your wifi card should still work even if you have only one antenna attached.
