Upgrade T430 Screen

#1 Post by deper29 » Fri Jul 05, 2013 2:04 am

I have a T430, and I was wondering if it's possible for me to upgrade the display at all. I didn't get the higher res display when I purchased it, but want to know if I can just order that part and swap it out. Will that work? Or is there something that wouldn't like that at all?

I have a similar question. I contacted Lenovo technical support about this matter yesterday and the support specialist said that she wasn't sure either way about the feasibility of swapping up to the higher resolution screen although she thought that it just might be possible given that my machine had the same chip, gpu, cpu, etc. of T430 machines with the HD+ screen. Does anyone have any definitive information on this?

I'm guessing this will require a guinea pig to test it. I looked for info on this and I found no references, even of it not working.

After researching this, it appears that it has been done before. One would probably need a new connector for the HD+ screen, and be careful about hooking it up. Someone from another site said, concerning this question: "It is certainly "technically" possible. You replace the panel and the cable. This is not considered a customer-replaceable part, so you may affect the warranty status. The backlight fuse on this model is VERY easy to blow, so make sure the battery is removed, and you are grounded. Also, I suggest unplugging the cable from the motherboard before working behind the panel. It would be poor to blow out your motherboard."

If you really want to try, RealBlackStuff might be able to provide the service.
