You can add one 16 chips PC100 or PC133 256MB SDRAM. As the photo shows.http://members.shaw.ca/shekyung/mt2.JPG

So, 256+128+32(board)

HI,

Looked at some memory and they tell that Pentium II will only go to 288 MB, I think my system buss is 66 MB. Where might I find a 16 chip 256 MB?

Cheers,

Robert

That is not right. 288 means 128+128+32. You can find that 16 chips on ebay.

The original 600E would only use the 128MB chips. If you have the latest BIOS upgrade it will use 256MB chips. The catch is they MUST be 16 chip modules. The later style 4 or 8 chip modules won't work even if they are PC100/133 parts. You will find them much cheaper than the 16 chip parts, naturally!

Search this site for the latest BIOS revision number, or go to www.ibm.com and check.

I don't believe the A5U is one of the 600Es that can use 256MB RAM.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed, check eBay for 33L3070, the part number for IBM 256MB memory and try one.

600E Ram Update

#9 Post by Robert » Fri May 13, 2005 12:03 pm

Hi James,

I linked to IBM and what you said and what I had begun to believe is that

my machine model A5U ain't going to work. Hate to spend the $ to make sure!

Thanks and Cheers,

PS 600E not equal to 600X Think I'll settle for 288

Now I'll have to check on mine! It's a 4AU... so it's good. Now to pop the cover and see exactly what's in there. It reports 294MB
