T440p - interesting. I wonder what will differentiate the 'p' model... hopefully a quad core processor, FHD IPS display and the *option* of integrated graphics... It's annoying that Lenovo makes you go with a discrete graphics card when you want a quad core processor... I hope that stops with the T*40 series.

I think "p" means:
- Standard-voltage CPUs
- Normal hinges (no drop-down hinges)
- The standard 9-cell option like on former ThinkPads (no built-in batterys on these models)
- Thicker chassis
- Built In DVD-Drive/UltraBay
And maybe (the other things are confirmed):
- More ports (for example, Expresscard)
- More than 12 GB RAM (maybe 16, maybe 32)
- Quadcore? (for sure the T540p will have this option, but I am not sure about the T440p)
- Maybe higher end-grapics
By the way, added the T540p picture to the start-post.

Thanks for that. So it doesn't appear (sans keyboard) that the T440p will be much different than my T420 in terms of chassis, expansion, etc. I'm glad to hear that frankly. As long as it can use the same dock as my T420, I might be tempted to order one - with a quad core processor and no discrete graphics card (please).

Oh, I am sorry, but thats a point where you will be disappointed: Lenovo is (again) introducing new Dockingstations, mainly because of the new power-adapter and the new DockingPort, which is designed to be thinner than before, also, the new Docks are smaller than the Series 3 Docks. These are are new Docks:
-
ThinkPad Basic Dock (replaces the Port Replicator Series 3)
-
ThinkPad Pro Dock (replaces the Mini Dock Series 3)
-
ThinkPad Ultra Dock (replaces the Mini Dock Plus Series 3)
I also don´t like that, because I ordered recently a T440s and I have an old Mini Dock Series 3, which is now useless.

Looks like Elitebooks box by the "sharp" palmrest edge instead of ThinkPad rounded one

The palmrest edge is still slightly rounded, not sharp like the Elitebooks.
Older T models (the T500 for example) also had a less rounded palmrest edge.
Its the same plamrest-design as the T440s, just with a thicker chassis.

Wonderful display and a numpad

The numpad can "fix" broken layout of navigation keys when not used as numeric pad. As for the display I will believe it once it is confirmed (Acer has
announced it January 2013). IPS displays in T440s are not still confirmed yet either.

I don't have anything against having "p" editions thicker than regular ones if it improves cooling.

It is confirmed that the T440s uses either AHVA (Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle) or IPS. See these pictures:

Based off the "real photo", I like it.
And if what they're saying about the displays is true, I may end up buying a brand new Thinkpad for once.
Once I get a job and leave college, that is.

Well, it may finally be that my Frankenpad has found a worthy successor.
Based on my experience with a W520 at work, I might have to pass on the T540 just based on the sheer size of the machine. Beefy hardware is nice, but man, traveling with it was a bit of a pain. It wouldn't fit on the seat-back trays in economy class if the person in front was reclined (couldn't tilt the screen forward enough). I certainly do like that the T540 will have a high-res screen though!
So, it's looking like a T440s, or maybe the p depending on how it compares in size to my T60p!

Optical drive is stil there. Both T440p and T540p will come with an optical drive (as well as UltraBay).
No exact data yet, but the T540p should have the same footprint as the older T530, just a little bit thinner.

Well, there will be one, the GT 730M. See:
http://www.lenovosolutionscentre.com/us ... d/features I don´t know why it is missing in the HMM, but in the Userguide, there is also noted something about nVidia graphics.
