I need help with my ThinkPad T440p

I'm having difficulty with my thinkpad t440p.

I don't seem to be able to access certain files and folders. When I click or double click icon like all programs, computer, control panel, documents etc... on the start menu nothing happens. If I right like and select open nothing happens either.

Same issue with some of the taskbar icon like my documents.

Also my fan seems to be consistently on for the last day.

I'm thinking a factory restore to windows 7 or possible upgrade to windows 8. I don't have a factory restore CD though so how do I do this?

Would appreciate your advice as it's doing my head in at the moment.

Did you check the mouse/trackpad settings?

For a set of recovery discs, you need to burn off a set using the DVD burner. They no longer come with them. That's how most PCs are these days.

The trackpad is fine - I can still open other programs (word for example).

What exactly do I need to burn? Is there a url location for the file?

Go to the search box and type "create recovery media". Double click then follow the prompts.

There's a way to restore the Windows 7 OS to factory settings by accessing recovery software in the BIOS. When the ThinkPad boots up, it should have something like in the bottom "ThinkPad" and "A product of Lenovo" on the right handside. It says "Press Enter to interrupt boot", so please press Enter. Then press F11 or the control that relates to Recovering Windows. Just follow the directions through and then it should restore the Windows 7 OS.

Creating recovery media is also a good idea for cases when this can't be accessed and Brad's suggestion is right on.

Good luck!
