ThinkPad T440 (SSD MODEL) - Issue with corrupt drive.

#1 Post by frenchd » Thu Mar 27, 2014 7:39 am

Hi everyone

I'm having a night mare with the ThinkPad T440 which we are now buying (type: 20B7) which ships with a Samsung 256GB SSD.
In summary what we have been seeing is that users are putting their machine to sleep (or the machine goes to sleep by itself when the user is away in a meeting for example) and then when the machine is woken up - the disk has become corrupted and completely unreadable.
Upon trying to boot up the machine you are presented with "the boot selection failed because a device is inaccessible".
Upon inspecting the disk the problem is that the MFT is corrupt and so too is the MFT backup.

I've had about 7 or 8 users which this has happened to now and they've all lost their data (no backup!) and I've had to rebuild their machine. There is no guarantee it will not happen again.

Is this just due to drivers / BIOS / power management software?
Anyone experienced this too?

We've only got 20/30 T440's so this is quite a high failure rate.

Cheers.

There is a major problem with the Samsung 840 Pro SSDs in your T440 (and other Lenovo models).
Make some time and read through 8 pages of: T440s is killing Samsung 840 pro SSD's
