Hi, my lenovo t430 screen is black. When i start my computer, the battery led flashes 3 times and goes off (when on charge). I can see a faint image of my desktop and hear the usual sounds of an opening session, no beeps. I can actually enter my personnal account but everything is black. Sometimes, the brightness gets back if i play with the screen but not this time. I may add that the battery led is green only when the battery charge is removed. Please help.

One or a combination of the following most likely happened:

1. Inverter died
2. Backlight died
3. Cables got loose

First, if your laptop is still under warranty, I would send it in. If it is already expired, then I would take a look at the T430 hardware manual on Lenovo's website and take the screen and screen bezel off to check for loose connections. You can try reconnecting the cables that connect to the inverter and the LCD cable.

If that doesn't help, then your inverter most likely died. Backlight and inverter problems may look the same, but typically when a backlight goes out, it shows signs over a period of time, where as inverter problems are very sudden, which I assume is the case? You can find genuine inverters off of ebay. I probably wouldn't order from Lenovo since they overcharge for the same parts. However, if you find that the backlight (of the LCD) is bad, then a screen replacement would be the best action.

The LED status indicators, which include the battery LED, are usually on the inverter so that may also be a sign the inverter is bad, but it may also be a motherboard issue.

T430 machines don't have an inverter, they got LED-panel boards.
Their backlight consists of a string of LEDs (not a CCFL) which rarely (if ever) dies.
The HMM is hardly usable any longer, and does not even contain part numbers.
You'll need to download an additional FRU-listing. Good luck...
IMHO anything Lenovo that's newer than T420/W420/X220/T520/W520 is going downhill...
