[T440p]:To use Discrete Graphics only

#1 Post by polyj » Mon Jul 14, 2014 1:45 am

Is it possible to use the Discrete Graphics card (g730m) only but not NVIDIA optimus on T440p?
I can not find any options in BIOS--->config--->display

I want to do this because when I use the previous T420, I can set the refresh rate of external monitor via VGA to 75hz,
But now with T440p, the maximum is only 60hz. It seems the laptop are always using Integrated Graphics cards as output……

I have changed the NVIDIA 3D global setting to "high-performance Nvidia processor", but no luck.

Since the bottleneck is at the Intel Integrated graphics for Nvidia Optimus,
what is the significance of this technology? :?

Less heat and power consumption when using integrated card. When more demanding tasks (games, CAD) are needed, the discrete gpu switches over to provide better performance, but at the cost of more heat and power use.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53
